Art of the Great War
Inkwell Description: Inkwell made from cast aluminum and copper driving band from artillery shell mounted on four cast aluminum 'oxen feet'. Belgian. Exterior portion of driving band has engraved willow [or bay leaf] and oak leaf motif. Interior is engraved with a floral motif and is inlaid with two copper ovals and a band. The ovals are engraved '1914' and '1915';the band is engraved 'Dixmude' [Belgium] '1916' and '1917'. 53/4" long by 4" wide by 21/2" high. Text and Photographs © Jane A. Kimball
